I set mine by the month - 30k in 30 days. I don't focus on what I write daily because some days my word count is higher than others. Some days I dont write at all. I always end up meeting my goal because I set writing sprints throughout the month. I always make sure the sprints are in days I don't have to leave the house and/or times when I know everyone is sleeping. It's just less stressful for me that way. I'm glad you found something that works for you. That's half the battle.
